Pregnancy week 1: What to Expect

There are no early signs to expect at pregnancy week 1, but if you're trying to conceive, this is the best time to visit your doctor or gynecologist for proper preconception care.
1 Week Pregnant Malaica

Week one of pregnancy typically is the first day of your last normal menstruation period. You’re technically not pregnant here and probably menstruating. This is because doctors calculate how far along you are by counting the number of days from the first day of your last cycle rather than the day of conception or sexual intercourse.

For example, if you found out you’re pregnant on the 24th of the month and your last period began on the 2nd, your pregnancy is 22 days old.

If you’re trying to get pregnant, here’s what to expect on the first week and the right measures to increase your chances of conception.

What to Expect at Week 1 of Pregnancy

There are no early signs to expect at pregnancy week 1, but if you’re trying to conceive, this is the best time to visit your doctor or gynecologist for proper preconception care

The session involves evidence-based support to help your body prepare for pregnancy and ensure it’s ready to carry the baby to term. This includes a comprehensive assessment detailing your medical history, current medications, screening for genetic risks, chronic conditions, and lifestyle factors that can affect you chances.

Your doctor will also suggest a prenatal diet with foods that get you closer to pregnancy to ensure your body is supported. They might also prescribe prenatal vitamins and other supplements depending on the results of your assessment to boost fertility. This is also the best time to start tracking your ovulation so you’re ready and prepared when the time comes.

If you do conceive, you can predict when your little one will come along by adding seven days to the first day of your last period, subtracting three months and then adding twelve months. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate and not the exact date.

Your egg in your ovary will leave for the fallopian tube  on the 14th and will be available for fertilization for a period of between 12 and 24 hours. It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact moment of conception but as soon as it does occur, your little one’s brain and heart will start growing rapidly.
