Gender-based violence is any type of violent harm committed towards another person based on their sex or gender. 1. Healthcare Assistance Kenya (HAK)
Healthcare Assistance Kenya (HAK) is a humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization that operates the only and the first-ever Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Rapid Response System and Helpline 1195. Today, the helpline supports survivors of GBV from grassroots to break the silence and quickly access GBV services after a violation.
The main aim of this project is to help survivors access quick GBV services on referral through a confidential SMS system for timely prevention and treatment of infections such as HIV.

2. Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC)
GVRC is a non-profit making, non-partisan charity trust of the Nairobi Women’s Hospital (NWH). The NWH is a private institution that specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology services and seeks to provide holistic care to women and their families.
GVRC’s main purpose is to bring back meaning to a survivor’s lives and their families. They do this through the provision of free emergency medical treatment, emergency contraception, PEP (within 72 hours), and psychosocial counselling support to survivors of gender-based violence.

3. FIDA Kenya
Members of the public can now access counsellors, and lawyers free of charge on FIDA’s toll-free number 0800-720-50. Not only is the line free of charge, but they also offer legal advice and psychosocial support which is professional and confidential.

4. Kenya Men Engage Alliance
KEMEA Network is a global organization with a chapter in Kenya. The organization views gender equality as integral to its operations and for the creation of nonviolent and gender-just societies in Kenya.
The network membership includes community-based organizations, institutions, government departments and individuals working with boys and men in HIV and AIDS, Positive fatherhood, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR).

5. Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) Kenya
Following the rise of GBV cases in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, CREAW in partnership with Oxfam, Wangu Kanja Foundation, Acted Horn of Africa, Concern Worldwide, and Impact initiatives began providing support services to GBV survivors. among them cash transfers, counselling and shelter. The main offices are at Loiyagalani Drive, off Convent Road, Hse No. 24, Lavington, Nairobi, with other satellite offices in Kibera, Kilifi, Meru, Isiolo, and Narok.
Founded in 1999 as a feminist organization, CREAW’s goal is to see a just society where women and girls enjoy full rights and live in dignity. Besides offering a shelter for women experiencing gender-based violence, the NGO has a program that empowers victims with business education and capital so they can rebuild their lives.

6. LVCT Counseling Hotline
LVCT is the only youth sexuality and sexual health toll-free hotline in Kenya and the largest in East Africa. The peer-led hotline targeting young people aged 15-24 years was established by LVCT Health in 2006. It provides free information on HIV and AIDS, sexuality, sexual reproductive health and rights in a confidential and non-judgmental way over the phone.
LCVT operates in hundreds of facilities across 34 counties making it easy to access gender-based sexual violence help, especially for the youth and teen moms.

7. Kelin Kenya
The Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network uses litigation as a tool for social change. They help to safeguard the health rights of gender-based violence victims through litigation support, including sexual violence against women. The organization believes in a society where no one has to live in fear of oppression and builds on this cause by ensuring persons who have been violated have access to justice.

8. Family Health International (FHI)
Family Health International (FHI360) is a global non profit organization dedicated to developing solutions for global challenges such as mental health wellness, poverty, education, and health accessibility.
FHI360 helps victims of gender-based violence in Kenya and East Africa by offering mental health first aid and connecting them with additional psychosocial support if needed.

9. Childline Kenya
Childline Kenya works in partnership with the Government to STOP child abuse and provide a safe environment for all children experiencing violence. They offer the only nationwide helpline service dedicated to children that runs 24 hours toll-free and is accessible by simply dialling 116.
Children and members of the public can call to report cases of child abuse or to seek mental health support, medical treatment, legal aid or safe shelters for victims.
