Playing and Development for Your Baby at Week 5
Your baby at week 5 is growing very fast. They can now stay awake for longer sessions, spending up to 10 hours awake out of the 24 hours in a day. They will also start enjoying short sessions of play and you can begin by playing with them for 10 minutes at a time a few times a day. Singing, cooing, and peek-a-boo are likely to catch her interest.
Developmentally your child is a sponge learning from each interaction with you. Your cuddles, conversational speech and singing will stimulate his brain development optimally.

Soothing Techniques for Colic
Your 5 weeks old baby may also be suffering from bouts of colic right now. This is common and it doesn’t mean you’re failing in motherhood.
You can tell whether it’s colic when the crying and abdominal discomfort start and end at the same time each evening. There is no actual cure for colic in children and it usually disappears within three months. However, there are certain soothing techniques you can try to alleviate the fussiness, including:
- Gentle movements such as rocking or using a baby swing
- Giving a pacifier
- Using warm baths and compresses
- Giving a gentle tummy massage
