Love is…..

Some days feel magical, while others feel quite heavy & during Valentines, love needs to be present.

Love is showing up…..but what does this look like during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is not just in the body, even though this changes everything, it is in the heart, the home, the little acts of service and in the daily rhythm of life. There’s excitement, many questions asked, cravings, quiet fears, mood swings and beautiful anticipation, but in the middle of all that, one thing stands out more than the grand romantic gestures, LOVE that shows up!

During this period:

  1. Love becomes action, not just a feeling.
  2. Love is listening, even when the emotions don’t make sense
  3. Love is putting her first
  4. Love is understanding that pregnancy can be joyful
  5. Love is understanding that pregnancy can also be overwhelming

Some days feel magical, while others feel quite heavy…..and during this period, love is being present. Love is also learning; understanding the pregnancy journey and asking hard questions early, kindly and clearly.

  1. How would you like me to support you during this pregnancy?
  2. What makes you feel safe when you are overwhelmed?
  3. Are we attending the ANC visits together?
  4. How would you like me to support you this month?
  5. What support do you need from me during labour and after delivery?
  6. What would “being present” look like for you?

Love is practical support. When a partner shows up; physically, emotionally and practically, he automatically becomes part of the care, not just the story. This is what practical love looks like during this period:

  1. Noticing when she is tired before she says it
  2. Taking on more household tasks without being asked
  3. Making sure meals are prepared
  4. Ensuring the vital items are within reach
  5. Helping her feel seen, supported and safe

During this period, Love becomes a calm voice because pregnancy comes with worry and constantly asking yourself as a mum, “Am I doing this right?”, there is usually a lot of anxiety, confusion and fear about the unborn baby, finances and the whole childbirth process.

In this case, Love is:

  1. The steady hand
  2. The reminder that she is not alone
  3. Respect (for her changing body and her boundaries)

At Malaica, we see this every day; when partners attend appointments together, when men ask questions, and when families choose to walk this journey together. So, what if pregnancy care was more than check-ups and scans? What if we treated pregnancy as a whole life journey and not just clinical visits? We believe pregnancy is emotional, relational, and deeply human.

Pregnancy is love and this Valentine’s season, we are redefining that by encouraging you to show up because Love is…showing up.
